I Need a Do-Over

Yesterday, I needed a do-over. Can we just act like yesterday didn’t happen, and carry on?
First, I ran into some unexpected fires at work, and let’s just say my reaction wasn’t something I would want displayed on my Facebook timeline. Then, I pick up my five-year-old at her summer day camp, and I meet the teacher at the door asking “can we talk about your daughter’s behavior today, Mrs. Peters?” Lord help me.
After I drive home trying not to go bananas on said five-year-old, my husband comes home from work a little on the grumpy side. (I love you, Babe! But, this wasn’t your finest moment.) And, ahem … my reaction to the grumpy hubs wasn’t exactly wife-of-the-year material.
To say some confession time and a good come-to-Jesus meeting was in order is an understatement.
So, I ate two chocolate donuts, had the “pull yourself together” talk with myself, and went humbly to my war room for a therapy session with the Most High.
I failed.
Big time.
Yesterday was one of those days I was so glad that I serve a God of do-overs.
While I failed miserably, I cling to the fact that I’m a work in progress. Paul addresses this in his letter to the Philippians. For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him. Philippians 2:13 (NLT)
God is renewing my spirit and working in me every day – and some of His best work is when he frees me from the bondage of my brokenness.
As women, we’re really good at beating ourselves up over our failures. We soak in our shame and let Satan into our hearts and minds to convince us how inadequate and horrible we are. This internal dialogue we have with ourselves is toxic. It’s paralyzing. And, the enemy loves it.
Don’t keep a record of your royal screw-ups and convince yourself you’ll never measure up. Because you won’t. We can’t. But, we have a Savior that paid that price for us. And, only through Jesus are we freed of the penalty of our mistakes.
For everyone has sinned, we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God freely and graciously declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty of our sins. Romans 3:23-24 (NLT)
Yesterday was not my best day. Unfortunately, I will have more bad days. You can count on it. But, I cling to the promise that Jesus Christ is more than enough for an eternity of do-overs.
