When the Israelites saw the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord coming in to the camp, their shout of joy was so loud it made the ground shake! 1 Samuel 4:5 (NLT)
I’ve been a part of some ground-shakin’ occasions – I mean where hoopin’ and hollerin’ are just the tip of the iceberg.
When I saw that plus sign on that pregnancy test six years ago. Yeah, my neighbors are probably still praying for me after that episode of jubilation.
Or, many a Saturday down South when my beloved Razorbacks have been in overtime with an SEC foe. When my Hogs won one of those nail biters, our Woo Pig Sooie definitely had the ground shaking.
So, when I read in the Old Testament where the Israelites are bringing in the Ark of the
Covenant (the thing that represented the actual presence of God during that time) into their camp to carry into battle with them, and their shouts of joy were so loud that they made the ground shake – I take notice. The presence of God is impressive. It deserves such delight.
For your presence among us sets your people and me apart from all other people on earth. Exodus 33:16b (NLT)
We want to be a part of ground shaking moments, don’t we? They’re full of joy, exhilaration, and mayhem in every good way possible.
As a follower of Christ, we have God’s presence with us every day. The same thing the Israelites shouted for joy so loud that they made the ground shake – is inside us and with us. Every. Single. Day.
But, is our ground shaking every day?
Or, are we taking for granted the presence of God in our lives?
If I’m honest with myself, to say that I take for granted the presence of God in my life might be the understatement of my existence. But, it doesn’t change the fact that He’s here.
Encouraging me when I struggle.
Catching me when I fall.
Holding me up when I can’t do it on my own.
Rejoicing with me when life calls for celebrations.
Comforting me when I need support.
And, loving me through it all.
So, today let’s take a minute and evaluate our response to God’s presence in our lives.
Let’s make the ground shake.
Let’s be hungry for more.
