A Spiritual Mid-Life Crisis
"But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus - the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God."
Acts 20:24 (NLT)
Sometimes I feel like I’m having a spiritual mid-life crisis. It’s a two-fold crisis really – on one side is the “so much to do, so little time” conundrum. On the other is the “who do I think I am” mystery. The more I grow in my Jesus journey, the more I realize I’m so out of my element here.
Take a breath sister.
It’s not a mid-life crisis as much as it is a reality check. A reminder that this life in Christ is an adventure, a journey, a wave I’m riding with everything I’ve got. Some days it’s smooth sailing, and others – well, let’s just say it’s not a pretty picture.
But, I’m making progress. Most days.
“Throw yourself into your tasks so that everyone will see your progress.” 1 Timothy 4:15b (NLT)
I love this verse. It reminds me to stay focused. To make progress. To be better today than I was yesterday. Perfection is great, but will I ever reach it?
Nope.
But, striving to be more like Him is the journey I’m committed to right where I am today.
Yes – there’s LOTS of work to do.
Yes – I’m unqualified.
That will never change. But, I am changing, and the progress I’ve made is the proof in my puddin’.
So, let’s take a minute and toast to progress.
Let’s celebrate how far we’ve come and look forward to where we’re going.
Because, it’s really about where we’re headed – not where we are today.
There's no time for a spiritual mid-life crisis.
Let’s get to work.
